Task - Pros and cons
1.Hire more journalists to cover a bigger range of events.
More people hired means more content created and
more work done, however that also leads to more money spent on their payment due
to their large number.
2.Put more ‘sponsored content’ online and in your paper.
Putting a lot of sponsored content and ads on your paper leads to
a lot of profit through advertising, but on the other hand too much ads could
make the audience not want to read the source.
3.Sack journalists
Although there surely are pros of
sack journalists, for instance creating an interesting story for the
audience, the cost outweighs the benefit in my opinion.Sending a team of
journalists to a foreign country for example to do a story on something that is
risky (a story on ISIS,or something of that sort) would be really expensive
because of the fact that there would be also editting involved.Furthermore the
transport, stay and food should also be payed which leads to more excess
funding.
4.Make journalists tweet more.
Except being repetitive I don’t see anything wrong with frequent tweeting.Constant
release of content means a bigger chance of reaching more and more audience.
5.
Make journalists write about celebrities more.
Again
repeditiveness, sure some people are more likely to click on the next clickbait
arcticle (how Charlotte Crosby poses with her mum lookalike in matching
swimsuits or how Kim K. has another nude pic leaked) and these articles are a
lot easier to make, but if there’s too much of them that would make people feel
bored of the same empty and grey content.
6.
Increase cost of paper
This
in my opinion would have mainly negative effects. Firstly news sources make
their main profit through advertising so raising the price of the newspaper
wouldn’t have much effect also because of the fact that is relatively
cheap, that could actually make people want to buy it even less.
7.
Put up ‘paywall’
Paywalls
are an excellent way to legitimize the content being provided, where
higher-quality content may be very valuable to a certain audience, and
therefore, worth the price of what the publisher asks. A problem that may occur
is people not feeling convinced enough to pay for a weekly/monthly
subscription.
8.
Ask readers to write more stories (for free)
There is
engagement with the audience so I think that asking readers to write stories
for free would mainly have positive effects.People may lear about this new
journal that lets readers release content and it would sred like a virus
through viral advertising (word of mouth).
9.
Shut down your paper (go online only)
Utilizing both
paper and an online news journal could reach the biggest audience (elderly
people are more likely to read newspapers as they have always done rather than
surfing online and reading something on the internet).
10.
Decrease price of newspaper (or make it free)
The main pro argument here is that newspapers
would be more
available than
before, and if you had a man giving them in person to individuals that would
make them even mre accessible.
