Pitch Writing Task
I am Stanimir Tsvetkov, a
student from Leyton Sixth Form College and a former student of the Geo Milev ELMS
(English Language Middle School) . I will be writing in relation to student
life and I think I am suited because I myself am going through it.
Being used to a system, way
different from what I am in now, I would say that I feel as if I am in the
right place. That is mainly due to the fact that communism is still present in
some way in my previous country, Bulgaria. For instance we are obliged to stand
up and greet in one voice the incoming teacher in the room, otherwise we are
punished. The teacher also stands on a platform, when he presents material, which I think implies,
that he is superior in some way. Additionally having 14 different subjects is
too much of a burden to bare, which results in information overload and you end
up learning almost nothing. I personally think that focusing on fewer subjects
that you are actually interested in is ideal, that way your mind is where it has
to be. That is why A levels appeal so much to me. Furthermore the teaching
methods in my previous school facility are a bit outdated compared to the ones
used here. Back there, the connection between the student and teacher was absent.
No one really cared about the opinion of the pupil pretty much, whilst here,
even getting asked occasionally how are things going or if I need something is
really pleasant. Being surrounded by skillful teachers in a healthy
environment makes me feel safe, capable
and valued. For the first time in years I feel as if studying is peasant and
enjoyable. I think that my previous school should start employing more young
teachers. Furthermore I think the whole system should be updated in general.
