                Are YOU represented in TV drama ? Is your gender represented in TV drama? How about your ethnicity? Is  your age or even your sexuality represented in TV drama? If yes ,then are you represented correctly?

Nowadays , from what I’ve seen everything such as TV shows, films, games even ads should represent something. It should carry a certain message and meaning. To be honest, I strongly disagree with that. Creators try and release their content in the most politically correct way possible, but somehow someone gets offended and that specific content gets demonized and banned. However, I think things hold loads of meanings. Something can be deciphered and understood in numerous ways. That’s why movements such as Dadaism and Post-Modernism exist. They literally hold no meaning at all and still manage to challenge certain established beliefs about representation. On the other hand challenging beliefs may go out of control.

 The large success of the TV drama platform Netflix is due to its goal. To give you as much content as possible. More content would mean more types of content ,making the TV  shows a lot more diverse than usual. And of course lots of shows would target minority groups as well. Not that there is something wrong with that. In fact there isn’t at all. Shows about Hispanic people,  Native American tribes, about gay people and other minorities start gaining popularity, which in my opinion,  is totally fine. I would actually say that seeing such shows with very different plots than we are used to ,are totally cool. However, I do not think a show should be glorified because of the fact that it is based around a minority. I would enjoy and like a TV drama series because it is gripping  and entertaining, not because its story line is about a gay Mexican dude who tries to fit in society.

I cannot really say if representation on Netflix is better than on traditional broadcast television, since I just do not pay attention .I simply do not deem it as something important. As to me a 17 year old, straight, white male from a country in Eastern Europe named Bulgaria, I would not say that there is a constant need of representation of minorities in TV drama series . If there was a show about Eastern Europeans ,yes I would probably watch it but that does not mean I am going to fall in love with it just because it represents my culture, I would like the show if it was entertaining.

I will have to disagree with the statement ‘What you watch represents you’. I would not say that the shows that I watch really represent me. TV series such as Vikings which are extremely dynamic  and well produced really appeal to me. However I’m also into nihilistic  and comedic shows like Rick & Morty.  At the end of the day it all comes down to taste essentially and I’m looking for a good show to watch and enjoy. A good show which I can relax to ,and forget about my assignments and deadlines.

1. Because of how simplistic and open-ended the game is. In order to play Minecraft you need collect certain resources. A bed, for example, requires you to combine wood and wool, while a longbol is made from a stick and some string. There's no story, no mission, just you and a world of possibilities.
