Old Spice Bahamas Ad Analysis

How are viewpoints and ideologies communicated? Draw on a range of examples to illustrate your analysis: Old Spice is an American brand of male grooming products such as deodorants, shampoos, body washes, soaps etc. Initially, first targeted to women with men's products being released only before Christmas at the end of the year. However, over time as the men's products found more success it began to focus exclusively on those. The model used in this ad is Isaiah Mustafa, same model used in the extremely popular video advertisement of old spice called ''The Man You Can Smell Like''. The reference to that video is the ideological message it carries, which is essentially that if you use this body wash you become more masculine and therefore become more appealing to women. The Old Spice Man promotes this unrealistic idea by depicting the ''ideal man''. A lot of postmodern and non-traditional elements have been used in the ad as well. The surr...

It is looking directly at the audience and it gives out feelings of hostility due to its facial expression. Its hand is reaching forwards and the palm is facing down so it also asserts some level of dominance and power. The story must be set during the 20th century based of the sheriff's uniform. The sky full of stars and the mysterious figure in the bottom right corner may be r...

How does The Big Issue cover you have studied use media language to construct an alternative representation of event/group/issue?

The Big Issue sticks to its conventional layout of its front cover by having its logo at the top left corner. The front cover itself is a child-like drawing. The focal point is the house being erased with a rubber. The rubber itself has council tax written on it and the house being erased imply that the government charging people extra for every bedroom leads to people having less money. It’s proven that poverty is one of the major causes for homelessness and we can also assume that the magazine is emphasising its homelessness-fighting agenda.                The Big Issue is actively trying to demonise the council tax by adding the heading ‘’The tax debt scandal forcing people from their homes’’ right next to the image of the house being erased, which once again pushes their ‘’poverty-fighting machine’’ agenda. The wipe out headline, with the erased background, does refer back to the council tax wiping out homes,...

Statement of Intent

For my music video I plan to use media language to create a performance based music video which will be dynamic and fast the same way the song I used is. The video will be directed towards 16-25 class AB demographic to reflect the industry context desired by Universal Music- which is a music video which has ‘artistry’ and ‘innovation’. The location I have chosen is the Sea Garden in Burgas. Its right next to the Black Sea and additionally it is full of greenlife, fountains and young people. . I will use actors who are experienced in the field of acrobatics, tumbling and dancing to accompany the track chosen.  The way I am going to tackle the performance, mise en scene and editing will be reflecting the song chosen. The same way in the song in which Rich Brian describes how he has been dealing with his new environment which is the music industry and how he has stayed true to his roots, I will have one of the actors performing in the Sea Garden. It is almost as if he is in his prim...
